Tips for Planning a Camping Trip

June is National Camping Month, and that means there’s no better time to get your family and friends together for a camping trip.

But besides being a ton of fun, camping is also hard work. From organizing your gear, to picking a camp site and all the other planning that goes into camping, it can be a bit overwhelming. But camping is totally worth it and is a great way for you and your loved ones to make memories that will last a lifetime.

To help ease some of the stress of your pre-camping preparation, we’ve compiled some tips for you to follow so that you can make sure you’re completely ready for the great outdoors.

Find Campers: First thing you’ll want to do to plan your camping trip is figure out whom your camping group is comprised of. Is it just your family? Are there friends who might want to join? If you have kids, are any of their friends interested? Lock down a group of committed campers and you can proceed with the rest of your planning.

Pick a Date and Site: Once you know who you’re camping with, discuss with the group when and where you’d like to take your trip. If you’re choosing a campground, they can fill up rather quickly during peak camping season so it’s best to book ahead.

Pack Gear: Make sure you pack all the gear you’ll need for camping such as hiking poles, tents, sleeping bags, first-aid kits, hiking boots, insect repellant, compass, etc. Make a list of everything you’ll need before you pack so that you don’t forget anything and make sure you check the condition of all your camping gear to make sure it’s good to use.

Prepare Food: As best you can, try to plan each of your meals that you’ll have while camping and prepare as much of the food as you can before you leave for your trip. Examples of some food preparation that you can do at home include marinating meats and cutting vegetables. Also be sure to pack all the condiments and utensils that you’ll need.
